Provincial - Bill 7 – Economic Stabilization (Tariff Response) Act
UDI Letter
On March 25, UDI wrote a letter to Premier David Eby and Attorney General Niki Sharma, to join other business organizations in expressing our significant concerns regarding the unprecedented and undemocratic overreach proposed in Bill 7 – Economic Stabilization (Tariff Response) Act. We urged the Province to separate the internal trade provisions of Bill 7 from the rest of the bill. This would allow for swift passage of much-needed trade reforms, without forcing legislators to accept a deeply flawed and undemocratic expansion of executive power.
On March 28, Premier Eby said the Government will remove Part 4 of Bill 7, the section that would give the cabinet the power to bypass the legislature and implement regulations in response to the "actions of a foreign jurisdiction" or any measure that supports the economy.
