As mentioned in previous updates, on January 13th Council gave final adoption to the proposed Tree Management Bylaw.

At their meeting on December 9th, Council gave three readings to the proposed Tree Management Bylaw and endorsed the Tree Management Bylaw Implementation Plan in order to update the bylaw to align with the City’s Urban Forest Strategy’s Goals.  

 New fees and securities include:  

· the introduction of an application fee;  

· a field re-inspection fee; and  

· a tree protection security deposit for retained trees on development sites 

Revised fees and securities include:  

· updates to the cash in lieu amount for replacement trees; and  

· updates to the security deposit for replacement trees. 

The planned timeline for the implementation plan is expected to be enacted by March 1, 2026. Additional information can be found in the full report by City staff and Tree Protection Bylaw.
