Township of Langley - 200 Street 2040

As mentioned in previous updates, on November 18th, Council endorsed the general vision for 200 Street as a future transit-oriented development corridor and directed staff to use the 200 Street 2040 to inform an update of the Willoughby Community Plan in 2025.

At their meeting on July 15th, Council endorsed the vision and policy recommendations in the 200 Street 2040: Transit-Oriented Development Vision, Feasibility, and Implementation Study to guide transformation of 200 Street into a rapid transit growth corridor and to use the study as an interim policy guide for the review of development applications within the 200 Street corridor until existing Township plans and policies are updated. Additionally, Council also directed staff to report back in September with an implementation strategy for advancing the study’s policy recommendations including required amendments to Township plans and policies and a new development permit area designation for transit-oriented development. 

Based on the recommendations set out in the development strategy, it is projected that the 200 Street corridor could at build-out accommodate the following: 

  • 47,050 new housing units 
  • 98,500 new population 
  • 58,200 new office/industrial jobs 
  • 941,000 square feet of new retail floor area
