Provincial - Swearing in of New Cabinet

On November 18th, Premier Eby’s Cabinet was announced. It is stated in the news release that “The new cabinet’s top priorities will be bringing down costs for families, strengthening health care, making communities safer and growing the economy so everyone feels the benefits,” and there will still be “… a commitment to build partnerships with Indigenous communities and take action on climate change …”.  

Ravi Kahlon retains his Housing portfolio, which now includes Municipal Affairs, so he will have oversight over critical legislation, including the Local Government Act, the Community Charter and the Vancouver Charter. In addition to housing policy, Minister Kahlon will be overseeing “… municipal infrastructure needs.”  

The Premier’s Office will also be active in the local government sphere, as Brittny Anderson, Minister of State for Local Governments and Rural Communities, will be reporting directly to the Premier. In addition, the “Union of British Columbia Municipalities and local government relationships will move to the to the Intergovernmental Relations Secretariat in the Office of the Premier.”   

Mike Farnworth is House Leader as well as Minister of Transportation and Transit. George Anderson will be his Parliamentary Secretary for Transit. They will be working closely with the Hon. Bowinn Ma who is Minister of Infrastructure. The Premier wants to bring “… capital planning and procurement into a single ministry …,” to “… allow for better co-ordination at a time when government is building schools, hospitals and other infrastructure to support growing communities.”  

The new Minister of Finance is Brenda Bailey. Adrian Dix is the new Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions, so will have responsibilities for BC Hydro and the Climate Action Secretariat. The other new ministers are:

  • Citizens’ Services: George Chow 
  • Education and Child Care: Lisa Beare 
  • Minister of State for Child Care and Children and Youth with Support Needs: Jodie Wickens 
  • Emergency Management and Climate Readiness: Kelly Greene 
  • Environment and Parks: Tamara Davidson 
  • Forests: Ravi Parmar 
  • Health: Josie Osborne 
  • Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation: Christine Boyle 
  • Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation: Diana Gibson 
  • Minister of State for Trade: Rick Glumac 
  • Labour: Jennifer Whiteside 
  • Mining and Critical Minerals: Jagrup Brar 
  • Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills: Anne Kang 
  • Public Safety and Solicitor General: Garry Begg 
  • Minister of State for Community Safety and Integrated Services: Terry Yung 
  • Social Development and Poverty Reduction: Sheila Malcolmson 
  • Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport: Spencer Chandra Herbert 
  • Transportation and Transit and House Leader: Mike Farnworth 
  • Water, Land and Resource Stewardship: Randene Neill 

In addition, Dana Lajeunesse will be Parliamentary Secretary for Accessibility.
