Provincial - Zero Emission Vehicles

On April 29th, the Ministry of Energy and Climate Solutions announced that it will be pausing its Go Electric Passenger Vehicle Rebate Program on May 15th. The program provided rebates of up to $4,000 for British Columbians who purchased qualifying ZEVs.Β Β
The Ministry also released its Zero-Emission Vehicle Update 2024 Report and some of the findings in it include:Β
- βZEV sales accounted for 22.4% of new light duty vehicle sales in 2024;βΒ
- βNearly 195,000 light-duty ZEVs are now registered in B.C., compared to just 5,000 in 2016.βΒ
- βB.C. now has β¦ more than 7,027 charging stations β¦,β through initiatives such ββ¦ B.C.βs Electric Highway, a comprehensive network of fast-charging stations along all major highways and roadways in B.C. completed in 2024,β; andΒ Β
- βThe number of EV Ready stalls increased by 93% and the number of retrofitted EV Ready buildings increased by 48% since 2023;βΒ
The Report also includes a regional breakdown of total registered ZEVs. Of the 195,715 Light Duty ZEV registrations in the Province, 150,786 are in the Lower Mainland/Southwest Development Region; 29,716 are in the Vancouver Island/Coast Region; and 10,184 are in the Thompson-Okanagan Region.Β
