Provincial - Residential Tenancy Regulation Amendments

Amended

For several years, LandlordBC, UDI, and some local governments have been seeking changes to the Residential Tenancy Regulation (RTR) to allow builders to meet the requirements of housing agreements they have with local governments. Builders were unable to income test and/or end the tenancies of renters who no longer qualified to rent below-market income-restricted units – even if this was stipulated in housing agreements. Builders had to rely on third parties, such as non-profits or BC Housing, to administer those functions.

Last month, the RTR was amended to allow builders to perform these tasks. We would like to thank LandlordBC and the City of Vancouver for their work on the new regulation.
