Provincial - Highest Efficiency Equipment Standards
Consultation
January 30th, 2024
As noted in previous UDI newsletters, in 2021, the Province released its CleanBC Roadmap to 2030, which outlined strategies the Government will take โโฆ to meet B.C.โs 2030 greenhouse gas reduction target.โ This includes a commitment โโฆ to implement the highest efficiency equipment standards for space and water heating, effective January 1st, 2030.โ
Last month, the Ministry of Energy, Mines, and Low-Carbon Innovation (EMLI) released a Highest Efficiency Equipment Standards Regulatory Consultation document that includes proposed point of sale standards that all new space and water heating equipment sold and installed in B.C. would need to be high-efficiency and low carbon. This includes:
- โResidential forced air systems (i.e. gas furnaces);
- Residential hydronic heating systems (i.e. gas boilers);
- Domestic water heaters (i.e. storage and instantaneous water heaters); and
- Weatherized gas-fired packaged units (i.e. rooftop and makeup air units).โ
EMLI is hosting a webinar regarding the proposals on February 6th, 2024 from 10:30am-12:00pm (noon). They are also requesting feedback by February 15th, 2024, which should be directed to HEES@gov.bc.ca.ย
For additional information, please review the EMLI presentation slides from the first webinar held onย January 25th.
The Ministry will also be developing point-of-installation standards for more complex buildings that would be implemented by 2030. _________________________________________________________________________________________________
