On October 30, 2025, the Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness released two new resources to “... prepare for emergencies and ... the risks associated with natural hazards and a changing climate.” They are: 

• The British Columbia Disaster and Climate Risk and Resilience Assessment (DCRRA); and 
• The B.C. Hazard Insights Tool (HIT). 

The DCRRA includes information on: 

• Six hazards: riverine flood, coastal flood, extreme heat, wildfire, drought and water scarcity, and earthquake;
• How hazards will be influenced by climate change;
• How hazards may impact things we value: natural environment, built environment, economy, governance, health and wellbeing, and society, cultures and relationality;
• How hazards may impact certain groups of people differently than others; and 
• What governments, organizations and people can do to reduce risks and recover stronger.” 

The HIT, is a provincial/regional level “...web-based mapping tool that shows the extent of each hazard and the things that could be impacted by those hazards, such as infrastructure, people, the economy and the environment.”  

In its next phase of work, the Ministry will be reviewing additional hazards, and conducting a “... more detailed assessment of risk and resilience in the province ...,” as well as updating the HIT with “... new information and geospatial analysis ...”. They will also be providing guidance to ministries, municipalities, regional districts, some critical infrastructure owners and public sector agencies on how they are supposed to conduct their own risk assessments under the Emergency and Disaster Management Act.
