Provincial - Canada-BC Housing Partnership

June 23rd, 2026

As noted in our email last week, Prime Minister Carney and Premier Eby announced a new Canada-BC partnership investing more than $5 billion in BC's local infrastructure over 10 years. Key housing measures include up to $3.2 billion (federal and provincial combined) to lower development charges for multi-unit housing by up to 50% in priority communities, a new Condo Conversion Partnership to turn more than 2,200 vacant units into affordable homes, and a one-time $284 million federal transfer to reduce barriers to new construction.

DCC relief and infrastructure funding have long been part of UDI's messaging to both governments, though key details are still outstanding. We were disappointed the partnership did not pursue a broader GST rebate for all new home buyers, as Ontario has. UDI will continue to engage both governments as the details are worked out and keep members apprised.
