On May 27th, 2024, the Ministry of Housing announced that it was launching a new Building Permit Hub as a part of the process to streamline and digitize the Building Permit process. Last month’s launch included 12 local governments and two First Nations as part of the pilot, and will be available for new construction up to four units. The Hub will provide checklists for application completeness and automatic compliance checks with the B.C. Building Code and Energy Step Code. Further expansions of the hub are planned for this summer including permit applications for secondary suites and accessory dwelling units.  

The Hub will continue to expand over the next year, with the goal of applying province-wide and for more types of development.
