Provincial - Bill M 216 - Professional Reliance Act
UDI Joint Letter with GVBOT
On November 14, UDI submitted a joint letter with the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade expressing support for the intent of MLA George Andersonβs private memberβs Bill M 216 β Professional Reliance Act. This proposed legislation would help address a major concern of the development community by recognizing the importance of improving the efficiency and predictability of the development approvals process across BC. It proposes requiring local governments to accept submissions from Qualified Professionals (QPs) unless incomplete or under formal complaint.Β
Expediting the development approvals process by reducing redundancies in the review process, while upholding the professional standards of qualified professionals, is another regulatory tool which would support the timelier delivery of new homes for British Columbians who need more housing options.Β
On November 18, the Bill received Second Reading and is advancing to the Committee stage for further discussion.
UPDATE (Dec 2): The Committee is accepting written input through the consultation portal until January 6 at 3pm.Β
