Provincial - BCBC Compliance Tool Survey

Request for Feedback

The Ministry of Housing and Municipal Affairs invites you to complete this short survey to help them understand how BC Building Code (BCBC) compliance checking tools are currently used and where they can add value in the design and building permit review processes.

This survey is part of a broader effort to better understand how more digital compliance checks can be developed and made available through the Ministry’s Building Permit Hub (Hub). Enabling digital tools to pre-check compliance with the BCBC provides applicants and design teams with instant feedback and allows them to proactively address any design issues early in the permitting process. These pre-check tools do not change Authority Having Jurisdictions’ (AHJ) authority to determine compliance. The goal is to support compliance and reduce unnecessary back-and-forth between applicants and AHJs and improve the likelihood of compliance when a permit application is first submitted.

Specifically, this survey aims to:

  • Understand industry’s awareness and use of existing BCBC compliance tools to assist in your work. (e.g. design, estimating, construction processes);
  • Identify parts of the BCBC where the most time is spent on code compliance for Part 9 buildings that do not require an Architect and could be digitized for compliance checks;
  • Explore potential benefits and challenges of adding more compliance tools into the Hub.

This work builds on the development of the Part 9 and Part 3 Energy and Zero Carbon Step Code Compliance Checklists. As they expand the Hub, the Ministry recognizes the growing role of industry-led digital tools and aim to identify which compliance tools they can develop that would be freely available to all local governments and builders.

CLICK HERE TO BEGIN THE SURVEY – It takes approximately 5-10 minutes to complete.

The survey closes Friday August 29, 2025.
