The Canadian Board for Harmonized Construction Codes (CBHCC) has released “… twelve informational videos on the significant changes that were introduced into the 2020 National Model Codes,” and most of which have been incorporated into the 2024 BC Building Code (BCBC). The topics include: 

• Earthquake Design; 
• Structural Design; 
• Amendments to Section 9.36 regarding energy efficiency; 
• Accessibility;  
• Encapsulated Mass Timber Construction (EMTC). 
• Changes to Parts 5 and 6 of the 2020 National Building Code (NBC), including “… changes to provisions related to air leakage; the addition of new material standards; the removal of outdated and withdrawn standards; as well as … changes to heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) requirements, with a particular focus on ventilation and Legionella;” 
• Penetrations and the Continuity of Fire Separations;  
• Safety Glazing; 
• Large Farm Buildings;  
• Home-Type Care Facilities;  
• Changes to the National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings; and 
• Changes to the National Plumbing Code and the National Fire Code.   

Please note for the NBC changes to Section 9.36, accessibility and EMTC, the Province has some code variations in the new BCBC. They are also “… still reviewing the adoption of requirements for large farm buildings and home-type care facilities,” for the BCBC.
