On September 2, Council gave three readings to the Floodplain Management Bylaw to provide updates in accordance with Provincial guidelines and the District’s Integrated Flood Hazard Management Plan.

The proposed Bylaw will focus on:

  • Updating the Downtown Flood Construction Level (FCL) Exemption area to align with Downtown designated OCP land uses – this change will allow non-residential development below FCL in this area;
  • Incorporating new information received from a Qualified Professional in relation to Mashiter Creek overland flow hazards – including reducing the extent of the area and reducing the FCL to 0.3 within a portion of the area;
  • Rectifying other minor areas of improvement through several additional years of applying the bylaw, which is leading to the proposed new bylaw.

More information can be found in the full report by District staff.
