City of Vancouver - Urban Forest Strategy

At Standing Committee on Policy and Strategic Priorities on May 21st, Council adopted the Urban Forest Strategy and directed staff to report back in mid-2026 with long-term canopy cover targets. As part of the updated action plan, the City aims to grow the canopy on private and public land. The report includes the aim of encouraging private property owners to protect, plant, and maintain trees on private lands. The report notes continuing to advance policies that protect green spaces in front of buildings and create tree planting opportunities to offset private property canopy losses.

More information can be found in the full report by City staff.
