City of Vancouver - Licensing Landlords Motion

February 3, 2026

On January 21, Council directed staff to report back with amendments to the City’s licensing bylaw in response to a motion that proposes creating a new rental business licence for landlords operating multiple rental units in Vancouver. Licence renewal would be tied to compliance with City standards and provincial tenancy laws, with minimum property maintenance and safety requirements established as enforceable licence conditions.Β

Landlords would be required to disclose ownership and property management information and to post a visible City of Vancouver rental licence in their buildings that includes accurate contact details and notice of legal obligations.

More information can be found in the full motion by Council.
