City of Vancouver - Housing Target Progress and Interim Housing Needs Reports

On November 12th, Council received the Housing Target Progress and Interim Housing Needs reports for information.Β 

Housing Target Progress ReportΒ 

For the Housing Target Progress report, the five-year Provincial housing target (October 1, 2023 – October 1, 2028) for the City is 28,900 net new completed housing units. The Province measures completed units annually and cumulatively as follows:Β 

  1. Year 1: 5,202Β 
  2. Year 2: 10,597Β 
  3. Year 3: 16,281Β 
  4. Year 4: 22,349Β 
  5. Year 5: 28,900Β 

Progress towards the target in the first year includes 4,143 new units, compared to the Provincial target of 5,202.Β 

Interim Housing Needs ReportΒ 

The updated Housing Needs Report proposes the current and anticipated housing needs as follows:Β 

  • 5 Years (2021-2026) – 56,228 new units; andΒ 
  • 20 Years (2021-2041) – 182,947 new units.Β
