At the City Initiatives and Planning Committee on June 17th, Council endorsed the Master Transportation Plan Update. The update provides high-level direction for progress towards the City’s Climate Action Plan targets. 

A notable proposed “Big Move” includes the Smarter Parking Initiative, intending to convert minimum parking requirements to maximums for developments outside of Transit-Oriented Areas (TOAs), eliminating or minimizing the requirement for additional parking.  

As a result, considerations include: 

• Retaining some level of accessibility parking requirements; 
• Reviewing the maximum requirements periodically; and 
• Development of a Transportation Demand Management (TDM) plan. 

Regarding financial implications, staff will report back with an implementation funding plan that will provide more information on near-term projects and budgetary requirements.
