On May 14th, it was recommended that Council direct staff to bring forward a process to defer any updates to the Family-Friendly Units Policy until after the provincially mandated Housing Needs Report (HNR) is completed by January 1st, 2025. In February 2023, staff were directed to investigate if amendments to the family-friendly zoning policy are needed to meet the Port Moody Housing Needs Report 2+ bedroom targets. Due to the provincial housing requirements' impact on current projects, the Family-Friendly Units Policy will fall on a list of deferred projects. Following the January 1st, 2025 HNR, staff will better understand the provincial requirements and new development tools the Province is currently working on.ย

A motion was passed during the Council meeting referring discussion of an interim measure to the policy, intending to meet the Provinceโ€™s original targets, to the upcoming City Initiatives and Planning Committee (CIPC) meeting in June.ย

More information can be found in the full report by City staff.ย
