At their Committee of Council meeting on June 17, Port Coquitlam Council directed staff to prepare amendments to the City’s Processing of Development Applications Policy to help encourage purpose-built rental housing. The proposed changes would allow qualifying market rental projects, those that are non-stratified, secured as rental in perpetuity, and consistent with the Official Community Plan, to benefit from expedited approvals and a 50% reduction in development application fees once rental tenure is secured. These changes are part of the City’s Housing Accelerator Fund Action Plan. 

Council also considered proposed amendments to reduce off-street parking requirements for multifamily developments near frequent transit and in the Downtown, along with a standardized framework for Transportation Demand Management (TDM) measures. This initiative was referred back to staff for further refinement and implementation details.
