City of Port Coquitlam - Child Care Action Plan

March 12th, 2024

At Committee-of-Council on February 27th, a report was received with a 2024 update on the status of the City’s Child Care Action Plan.

It was noted that Bill 46 has introduced a framework for Amenity Cost Charges (ACCs), as a new tool local governments may utilize to fund future community amenities such as community centres, libraries and child care facilities. City staff are reviewing the possibility of utilizing ACCs, and exploring how this tool might be utilized to further increase the creation of child care spaces within the City, to meet targets in the Action Plan. Reassessment of the current targets and recommended actions in the Action Plan may be warranted in the future once City staff have a better understanding of how the new legislation impacts the development of new child care spaces.
