At their meeting on March 3rd, Council gave three readings to the proposed new draft Water Bylaw. Â
The primary changes to the existing bylaw, aside from the numbering change, are to: Â
- Section 3.3, sub-section (a) which adds the ability to apply for a water meter assembly, which is not in the current bylaw,
- allow property owners to pay to have a water meter installed at their cost; Section 3.3, sub-section (c); Â
- Allow meters in a townhouse complex to be installed in a common meter room; Section 3.6 (c). This was requested in a Development Liaison Committee meeting. Â
- Allow owners of single-family homes to request a radio transceiver not be installed on their meter if they agree to pay for manual meter reading; Section 3.7;
- Add a first-time water leak adjustment for property owners receiving a water meter through this program; Section 3.11
- Provide a rebate program if the water bills for the first year of water metering exceed the flat rate water utility bill; Section 3.12; Â
- Re-organize Schedules A and B which list the fees and charges;
- Revise to Schedule D, the installation standards and specifications for water meters. Â
- Add new definitions in Schedule F, clarifying the difference between the meter and the meter assembly, and make several housekeeping changes.Â
