City of Coquitlam - Residential Water Metering – New Construction
Adopted
As mentioned in previous updates, on December 2nd, Council adopted amendments on the gradual implementation of residential water metering in Coquitlam. City staff proposed that all single-family and multi-family developments submitting a Building Permit (BP) application after January 1st, 2025, be required to install a water meter per water service as a condition of building permit approval, with the builder/developer paying the meter installation cost. Individual units within a multi-family building do not need to be metered, as there will only be one meter installed at the property line.

December 3rd, 2024
On November 18th, Council gave three readings to a report focusing on the gradual implementation of residential water metering in Coquitlam. City staff proposed that all single-family and multi-family developments submitting a Building Permit (BP) application after January 1st, 2025, be required to install a water meter as a condition of building permit approval, with the builder/developer paying the meter installation cost.
Given the timelines involved with BP approvals and construction, billing will remain unchanged and continue at a flat rate until January 1, 2027. After this date, metered rates will apply to all metered residential customers.
