City of Coquitlam - Climate Action Plan โ€“ Draft Proposed Actions and Implementation

At the Strategic Priorities Standing Committee on November 27th, Council received a report providing an overview of the draft Climate Action Plan and proposed actions and future implementation.ย 

Notable proposed actions include:ย 

  • Advance the Energy Step Code, where feasible, for applicable building types; ย 
  • Consider advancing the Zero Carbon Step Code ahead of Provincial requirements, where feasible, for applicable building types;ย 
  • Explore opportunities to encourage innovative low-carbon and resilient construction, including heating and cooling solutions in new residential construction; ย 
  • Provide municipal input to the Province in the development of existing and emerging initiatives (e.g., BC Highest Efficiency Equipment Standard, Existing Buildings Renewal Strategy, and CleanBC programs) and support their implementation and delivery;ย 
  • Continue to integrate a climate and sustainability lens into new and updated land use plans by developing complete neighborhoods with mixed land use and transit-oriented development; ย 
  • Explore further opportunities to reduce vehicle parking demand in new developments through transportation demand management measures and right sizing supply; ย 
  • Continue exploring district energy feasibility within high and medium potential zones in Coquitlam; andย 
  • Analyze Coquitlamโ€™s building stock to understand demolition-related waste reduction and diversion opportunities. ย
