At their regular meeting on November 19th  Council received the 2024 Interim Housing Needs Report (HNR) for information and directed staff to publish the report on the City’s website. This interim report updates the City of Chilliwack’s housing needs in accordance with provincial legislation under Bill 44 – Housing Statutes Act. According to the HNR, the total number of units required to meet the City’s five-year demand is 8,347 while the 20-year housing need is 28,143. The HNR helps the City understand current and anticipated housing needs, which will inform the Official Community Plan update that is currently underway.
