City of Burnaby - Proposed Removal of Area Plan Notification through Rezoning Applications

On March 10th, Council authorized staff to repeal the Area Plan Notification Policy to improve efficiency and reduce processing times. The report highlights that the policy is not legally required and adds unnecessary administrative steps and costs to the rezoning process, and the notifications may also become outdated as new Official Community Plans (OCPs) replace existing area plans. Instead, development potential information will be made available through an online OCP land use map, ensuring accessibility and up-to-date details.

Regarding next steps, staff will stop producing area notification signs, remove the prerequisite for ongoing applications, and update City documents and fees accordingly. More information can be found in the full report by City staff.
