City of Burnaby - District Energy Utility Project Update

On April 15th, Council received a report for information providing an update on the Burnaby District Energy Utility (BDEU) project. The project intends to help the City meet its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets and integrate with the City’s Green Building strategy.Β 

The next phase of the project is the Pre-Validation Phase which expects to accomplish the following:Β 

  • Onboard the IPD Advisor, Prime Consultant Team, and Owner;Β 
  • Assess organizational readiness and team management;Β 
  • Customize the IPD framework including key performance indicators and preliminary project schedule;Β 
  • Determine co-location strategies; andΒ 
  • Develop a key stakeholder engagement plan to ensure comprehensive integration of all project participants.Β 

Staff will now proceed with the Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) validation process for Phase 1, involving a detailed design and construction of the BDEU project and the selection of the IPD project team.Β
